3D Modeler / Artist / Animator

These participants are people that create the original 3D assets necessary for the project. These participants may also modify pre-existing assets as required to meet application or project specifications.

These participants may be either Global Majic or client employees.

Normally these participants have one of the following backgrounds:

  • 3D modeler / animator / artist real time. This is a participant familiar with creating 3D models or animations that will be used within gaming engines (render engines that can view a model in near real-time). This participant is familiar with creating textures, using shaders and applying real-time visualization techniques to create low-polygon count 3D models that can be viewed in near real-time by an end-user. Typical tool suites used by this participant include Adobe Creative Studio, Lightwave, 3d Studio Max, Deep Exploration, etc.
  • 3D modeler / animator / artist movie making. This is a participant familiar with creating 3D models that will be used to create computer generated images for use in a movie or animation format. This participant typically uses similar tools to the real-time modeler; however their end result is the creation of high quality images for use in a movie or animation. Because this participant does not typically have the requirement that his final product can be rendered in near real-time, their end product may or may not be initially useful in a gaming engine.
  • CAD designer. This is a participant familiar with creating 3D models using CAD tools primarily for engineering or design purposes. Typical tool suites used by this participant include products from Pro-Engineer, Catia, Unigraphics, etc. This participants end product is typically used in the design, production and manufacturing process. Because this participant does not typically have the requirement that his final product can be rendered in near real-time on low-end computers, his end product may or may not be initially useful in a gaming engines.

The development of assets by participants with the varying backgrounds defined above produce a variety of end results stored in a variety of different file formats. Because their typical end-use may or may not conform to this particular projects detailed requirements, it is critical in any project that communication channels be properly established by the client project manager and Global Majic account manager to discuss modeling and creation details on a regular basis.

All projects must have a least one experienced 3D modeler / animator / artist familiar with using 3D assets in near real-time gaming engines. This participant will guide the team in collecting, modifying or creating assets for a given project effort.
